Newsletter Interrupted

I apologize for the 1 month delay in deivery of this ezine. This is a bi-weekly publication and that's what it will be. I'm heading to San Diego next week to attend Lisa Sasevich's "Big Mission, Big Sales, Big Life" Seminar. I'll share my observations and some take-away's with you in the next ezine (October 27, 2009), from what will certainly be a "life-altering event."

Can Social Media Creates Miracles? - You Better Belieive It!

I discovered over the summer that a good friend's mother is suffering from "Lou Gehrig's Disease," A.L.S. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, which is a terminal disease. There is no known cure for this disease which attacks the musuclar and nervous system in progressive atrophy, until the body shuts down. It attacks diferent people in different ways, my friend's mom has virtually lost her voice and swallowing is difficult. We know this is just the tip of the iceberg, and support, care, and love are the medicines of choice in this situation.

My friend and I met in cyberspace, through Facebook, Blogs, Websites and eventually many phone calls over the past year and a half. I've participated in my friend's programs and thorugh those encounters our friendship has grown. We have never met in person (yet)!

I was in the area where the parents live over the Labor Day weekend, and I asked if I might be able to pay them a visit, to offer support, maybe run some errands, or help in some way. We agreed, I called for directions and went to visit. I have an uncle who passed from A.L.S. as well as my father-in-law. Having some familiarity with the disease helps, I stopped to pick up flowers, brought them over, and was greeted very warmly. They took me to lunch at a pancake house, and I was able to answer a lot of questions father had about the disease and felt honored for him to share his fears of what will come later on. The really cool thing is that mother can still walk and move around, though a bit slowly and they are planning to go to Hawaii while she is still able, maybe December.

The reason I write this is to show the impact Social Media has on our relationships. Father said to me, "I bet this is the first time you have met the parents of a friend before you actually met the friend in person." I laughed and thought about how my friend and I were brought together through Social Media, a close relationship developed and I feel close enough to visit the parents in their time of need. You might very well say Social Media caused a miracle here. My friend lives far from the parents and I was able to offer some hope, support and the listening needed by the parents in lieu of my friend being there as much as my friend wants to be there.

I just wanted to share the story and offer my gratitude to the era we live in and the technology we enjoy that makes miracles like this happen.

Feed My Inbox

If you remember the play (or movie) "Little Shop of Horrors" the small plant that was named "Audrey II" grew into this monstrous carnivorous beast of a plant that boomed out "Feeeeeeed Meeeeee! Well in the Social Media world I've discovered "Feed My Inbox." This free service, which can be found at: www.feedmyinbox.com brings your favoirite blogs to you, and emails you when the blog is updated.

The service is very easy to use. Clicking on the link above, brings you to a page where you enter the blog you want to follow and be notified about, and your email address, that's all there is. Oh, you do get an email asking for confirmation, so confirm your choice. My recommendation is to create an account with Feed My Inbox. This way you will be able to manage all of your feeds, view them in an listing, "un-feed" if you wish, or use the tools provided. You can export your list of blogs in an OPML format, which allows you to import the blog list into other aggregators or RSS readers. An account can be created only after the first blog you want to follow has been confirmed. Then your email address is on file, when you sign up, all you do is enter your email and choose a password.

You will find this service to be a big help for you to add and manage those blogs you really want to follow, and be notified of updates. Give "Feed My Inbox" a try, and feel free to "feed me" by e-mailing me with any issues or questions you have, and I can give you a hand with setup.

Oh, and by the way, dont forget to add www.socialmediabizresults.com to the "Feed My Inbox" blogs that you follow.

Finally! How to Attract Customers with Your Social Media Profile

I am so excited to announce the availablity of a significant work that can assist you in creating a profile that will attract the right people as clients.

This e-book was written by my good friend MaryPat Kavanagh (the undisputed Queen of Marketing and Queen of Connections) and myself. We decided that MaryPat would serve as the primary author and I would be listed as a contributing author in order to have the e-book spoken in first person. We have titled the work "Social Networking Profile Guide for Business People - How to Create a Profile that Attracts the Right People to You so You Get More Leads, Customers and Sales."

I am working on adding some additional complimentary material about Facebook Fan/Business Pages to be a small supplement which will be e-mailed to all people who purchase the e-book when it is completed. A brief Information Page and Order Form will be ready by Monday October 19, 2009. I will make sure that you are notified when the page is ready.

MaryPat has included her proprietary "Social Networking Profile Template" which you can download once you purchase the ebook. This template has all the information you will need to use in order to make your profile portable across Social Media platforms. We are able to offer this time-saving e-book at a very attrative price so be on the lookout for an e-mail announcement on Monday October 19, 2009

Create a 'Meet and Greet' Mindset For Networking Success
by Lauren Darr

To be successful at networking, you need to ensure you're in the right mindset first. There are a few simple steps that you can follow when attending events to harvest the rewards of networking.

An Attitude of Giving

You must have an attitude of giving first. If you approach potential contacts at networking meetings with the clear intent of collecting business cards and simply adding to your list you will not establish the rapport and relationships necessary to succeed. We've all encountered 'card collectors' and can spot them a mile away. They rush up, shake your hand, tell you what they do, and give you a business card. Even though they ask what you do, it's obvious they are looking over your shoulder for their next victim while you're talking.

Engage in Meaningful Conversation

It's much better to go into a room and have a couple meaningful conversations than to shake a thousand hands and not remember a thing about anyone afterwards. Draw more out of your new contacts by asking them open-ended questions that start with words like 'How...?'

Focus on The Other Person

Take the spotlight off yourself. Listen and ask questions that will help you get to know people on a much deeper level. Give your elevator pitch when asked. Everyone has something interesting about them and sometimes you may need to dig for that. You'll get into the offices of CEO's that stellar sales people can't- simply because you truly want to know the realities of their situation. Take the time to get to know them as a person instead of looking for what you can get out of them or sell to them.

We do business with companies and people that we know, like, and trust. It is your responsibility from the first impression on to demonstrate that you are worth knowing, liking, and trusting. If you follow these few simple mindset steps, you'll be on your way to networking success! (And, always remember your business cards when you go).

Ezine Editor Shares His Story!

Growing up in NYC, I really believed New York was the only place on earth. The Saul Steinberg New Yorker Magazine cover art called View of the World from 9th Avenue which shows New York City in the foreground and the rest of the world looking really small, is very true for folks who live there. In 1976 a breakthrough in my life occured when I moved to Columbus, Ohio for Graduate School at The Ohio State University. I left New York City, and haven't moved back!

Thirty-three years later, I have my own business, work out of my house, married for 30 years with my wonderful wife Lynda, raised two kids - now grown, daughter Lauren 18, a freshman at Ohio State University, and son Ross 21 continuing his graphic design education at Columbus State Community College. All four of us co-habit the house at this time along with 2 Shetland Sheepdogs (Sage and Ty) who really run the place. A new resident joined the family on October 15, 2009, a Shiba Inu puppy named Todd.

My purpose in life that I bring to my work is helping people make their business dreams come true. My purpose lives in the world by helping people get the knowledge they are looking for and helping them apply what they learn in their businesses.

I serve my awesome solopreneur and home-based "service professional" clients by helping them get started in using Social Media platforms as a primary marketing method to grow their business. I teach the fundamentals of blogging, web site creation, social networking, Internet marketing, product creation that help clients get noticed and attract more business. I specialize in connecting people and being a resource "gold-mine" for them.

I offer hosting services, autoresponder and shopping cart services, Wordpress implementation, Social Media implementation strategic planning and small business consulting. Twenty-five years of Information Technology and International work, coupled with coaching and student services training, serve as the foundation for the business and personal transformation my clients celebrate.

I believe in an "Integrated Social Media" approach that weaves the elements of Social Media and Internet Marketing, Podcasts, Teleseminars, Blogging, and ezine-newsletters into a mix of connected platforms that can get a client's message out, and get my clients found by their prospective clients. Web Analytics, Search Engine Optimization, Paid Advertising, Community Involvement and off-line marketing are part of the process as well.

You can learn more about me, my company, my background, and how I can assist you with your Social Media, Blogging and Website challenges by visiting my Website, Social Media Business Results - www.socialmediabizresults.com or by contacting me in person. I love to connect with folks and welcome the opportunity to get to know you better.
